The Tibetan people are an ethnic minority with a long history in China, mainly inhabiting Tibet Autonomous Region and Tibetan-inhabited areas in provinces such as Qinghai and Sichuan.Their ancestral origins are related to the ancient Qiang people and the indigenous inhabitants of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. During the Tubo period of the Tang Dynasty, they developed into a unified ethnic group, with the Tibetan language and a complete Tibetan writing system.
The Tibetan people generally believe in Tibetan Buddhism. Their diet is mainly based on highland barley, butter, and beef and mutton, and Tibetan robes are their distinctive clothing.
They boast a splendid culture. The Gesar Epic, Tibetan opera, thangka (traditional Tibetan scroll paintings), and Tibetan medicine are among the world-class or national-level intangible cultural heritages, fully demonstrating the charm of this plateau ethnic group.
